I work in a nonprofit: The Refugee Centre as the operations coordinator, but also as the program developer for our new mental health program. The goal is to diminish feelings of isolation in times of covid, especially amongst newcomers, with specific interest in individuals who identify as refugee or refugee claimants. Part of the program is to educate newcomers on what covid is, keep them up to date with best practices but also to help combat feelings of isolation during this time.  Newcomers face multiple barriers to begin with when integrating into a new community, and the pandemic and it’s restrictions has added a layer to this. Part of the program includes identifying best practices, creating a tool box of activities to do when feeling isolated or anxious as well as create a social network between those who take part in the program.
