Dialysis Nurses on the Frontlines

“Wearing PPE consistently is nothing new for a dialysis nurse. Being on our A-game for vulnerable patients is something we partake in each and every day. There is something new that nurses and techs in the clinic I work for have been dealing with- fear control. Our patients are scared, rightfully so, and even most of our staff. Where our professionalism and leadership comes in, is when we can sideline our own fears to comfort the fears of our patients. How do we comfort our patients during a Pandemic? We stick to the core of what being a nurse is. We comfort our patients with education and holistic care that treats the whole patient, not just their Kidney Disease. We are all in this together, 6 feet apart.”
